Bury the Bourbon R+O Edition
One month before we tied the knot, we decided to take part in a southern tradition known as Bury the Bourbon. Complete with a photo worthy bottle of Kentucky Bourbon, a good looking groom with a shovel, and a couple pair of boots. Along with the promise that the bottle wards away any chance of rain, the bury the bourbon concept is one that makes for incredible photos.
According to southern folklore, if you bury a bottle of bourbon exactly one month before your ceremony, at your wedding venue, it will ward away the rain!
The bottle of bourbon must also be unopened, full and upside down. You then dig it up on your wedding day with your wedding party to enjoy and celebrate the beautiful weather!
We were getting married at Rustic Acres farm, exactly one month from our shoot. We decided to bury the bottle under the willow tree, where we would be with our entire wedding party post ceremony.
After the bottle had successfully made its way into the grounds of where we would get hitched, we took a few shots around the farm.
Ironically, it started to rain about 15 minutes into the shoot, but we made the best of it. We used these as makeshift engagement photos since we never wanted to have them done. Plus, we took the time we had to scope out some good places for pictures for the day of our wedding, too, including the ceremony location in front of the farm.
We also took some pictures with the horses on the property, although Scott kept a safe distance from them for most of the photos.
In the end, in case you were wondering, I have become a believer.
The weather for our wedding day was perfect, not a drop of rain in sight! Not to mention, it rained for 10 days straight before our wedding, too!We dug up the bottle with our closest friends; groomsmen and bridesmaids, and had our first drink as Mr. and Mrs.
